Police Station on the Road

We rested here for a while on our way to the Dushanzi Grand Canyon. Many cities in Western China have these stations just outside their perimeters to limit traffic on busy days or to oversee road closures. When we passed through, there was no checking required, but it did provide a shady place to rest. A family operated a shop covered by a tarp on the side, selling assorted jewellery and accessories, as well as watermelons. We purchased several bottles of iced water and enjoyed the cooling sensation as we drank.
